Clockwork Prince, Cassandra Clare

I guess I should just go ahead and start with this; Team Jem or Team Will?*
In magical Victorian London, orphan Tessa found safety with the Shadowhunters, until traitors betray her to the Magister. He wants to marry her, but so do self-destructive Will and fiercely devoted Jem. Mage Magnus Bane returns to help them. Secrets to her parentage lie with the mist-shrouded Yorkshire Institute's aged manager Alyosius Starkweather.

Okay, I know I was raving about Clockwork Angel but this book is so amazingly awesome. I honestly can't say one thing bad. Even the sudden twist towards the end between Tessa and Jem was great**!

Let's see, if you haven't read the review about Clockwork Angel, I'll just quick go over the setting and idea of these books. It's London in 1878 and the Shadowhunters from Mortal Instruments are back! Or, actually it's the past of the Shadowhunters.

In this book, you hear even more of the Shadowhunter family names and Ragnor Fell is even there. In the beginning, Charlotte's hold of the institute is at risk and everyone has two weeks to find the Magister or else. They're all contributing, except Jessamine, but I'll let you read about that.

So I changed my favorite character, just to let you know! Whoever it was before, it's now Magnus Bane. Just the way he is makes me love him! He's just so open about everything and it's a relief from everyone in the Institute keeping secrets from each other.

And, in the middle, or towards the end--I can't really remember, to be honest, it's all kind of a blur--I just felt so bad for Jessie. She's kind of a witch (give or take a letter), but sometimes you just want to cry for her!

Oh, and Jem! What a sweetheart! I love him! Okay, can I please have two favorite characters? I think Jem comes before Magnus, but he's a close second to be sure.

This'll be a short entry, I can't say much about this book other than I LOVE IT. Let me just explain how good this book is. I constantly have a pile of my five top favorite books on my bed-side table and that way, I can read my favorite stories until I'm dead tired! This book has just been put at the top of my pile.

Well, okay, this is usually where I'd wrap it up short and give you a couple little tid-bits of information about the book--awards it's gotten, things people have said, facts or myths--all from Wikipedia. I know, I know, "Wiki is icky!" but just deal, okay? This time, there was no Wiki article on it so I went to Amazon.com...
So, a word from our acquaintance, Amazon!

  • Los Angeles Times says, "Whether it's the overly tight corsets or the smell of dark magic that hangs in the air "like sulfur mixed with the Thames on a hot day," there's something about Victorian England that heightens tensions, both romantic and paranormal. In "Clockwork Prince," the second installment in a prequel trilogy to the bestselling "The Mortal Instruments" series, Cassandra Clare demonstrates her relentless authorial alchemy, blending societal restraint and an otherworldly battle into a steamy steampunk drama."
  • SLJ says, "This novel offers mystery, adventure, and, most importantly, a delicious love triangle. . . . It will not disappoint fans and it will definitely leave them eager for the conclusion of the trilogy."
*Team Jem, by the way. Er. Maybe Will.
**If you've read this book (whether you're Team Jem or Will), I'm sure your just as giddy as I am!
